Kristina Brodersen

Kristina Brodersen (born October 8, 1977 in Saarlouis ) is a German jazz musician ( alto saxophone ).

Live and act

Brodersen began taking classical piano lessons at the age of five; at the age of 13 she switched to the saxophone, on which she taught among others Peter Decker and Lee Konitz . In 1995 and 1996, she took one month of classes at the University of New Orleans Jazz Department . In 1997 she began studying jazz in Mainz with Peter Reiter , which she continued two years later at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Frank Gratkowski and Wolfgang Engstfeld . In 2003 she went to the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen for a year , where she was tutored by Lars Møller . Back in Cologne, she finished her studies in 2005.

Brodersen founded the band The Sidewinders in 1998 with Matthias Schriefl , Igor Lumpert, Rolf Langhans, Andreas Kurz and Christian Lettner , with whom she was on tour in North America in 2000 and recorded her first album. During this time she belonged to the Landesjugendjazzorchester Saarland and Bayern. Between 2000 and 2003 she was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer , with whom she played concerts in Germany and Russia. Further tours followed in 2007 with the European Movement Orchestra under the direction of Manfred Schoof through Germany, Slovenia and Portugal.

With her husband, the pianist Tobias Weindorf , she founded the Brodersen-Weindorf Quartet in 2008 , which has so far released two albums. In addition, a duo album Rabaneo was released with Weindorf in 2015 . In 2010 Kristina took part in the world premiere of Ingfried Hoffmann's children's opera Vom Fischer and his wife .

Prizes and awards

In 1995 Brodersen was awarded the jazz advancement award of the triangle (Saarland-Luxemburg-Rhineland-Palatinate). With the Sidewinders she won first prize at Jugend jazzt and the Biberacher Jazzpreis in 1999 .
