First ascent | During surveying work |
The Krottenspitze is a 2551 m high mountain in the Allgäu Alps . It is one of the few rocky peaks of the main ridge that can be seen from Oberstdorf .
Location and surroundings
The Krottenspitze is connected to the Öfnerspitze by a flat saddle. The jagged Krottenspitzengrat ridge stretches from the summit to the west-north-west . The most prominent tower in this ridge is called Krummer Turm . The steep north ridge forms the continuation of the main ridge towards the Kreuzeck . To the northwest below the Krottenspitze and the Krottenspitzengrates lies the Kar des Märzle . The path from the Kemptner Hütte to the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus leads through this . Because of its exposed location on the north side, this cirque is often filled with old snow until midsummer.
First ascent
The first ascent of the Krottenspitze probably took place during surveying work in 1854. In the same year, Dr. Gümbel also on the Krottenspitze.
Ascent
There is no marked path to the Krottenspitze. The easiest ascent leads via the normal route to the Öfnerspitze ( level of difficulty I ) and via its northwest flank down to the saddle (I). From there, continue with easy climbing (I) to the summit. Surefootedness , a head for heights and climbing ability are required.
With 28 pitches, crossing the Krottenspitzgrat from the Fürschießersattel ( 2207 m ) is the longest climbing tour in the Allgäu Alps. The difficulties on the west-northwest ridge are indicated with IV-.
