Hanae Kubo ( Japanese 久保 英 恵 , Kubo Hanae ; born December 10, 1982 in Tomakomai , Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese ice hockey player who has been a member of the Japanese women's national team since 1997 and is one of the best players in the country.

Career

Kubo played early in her career for Iwakura Peregrine , with whom she won numerous Japanese championships in the All Japan Women's Ice Hockey Championship . The striker made her debut in the Japanese women's national team in 1997 at the age of 15 . At the B World Cup in 1999 , she took part in her first major international tournament.

In the following years Kubo established herself in the national team, from which she resigned in 2005 and then moved to Canada. There she played for the Oakville Ice in the National Women's Hockey League . After the Japanese national team failed to qualify in the run-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics - for which Kubo had considered returning to the national team - they completely retired from ice hockey at the age of 28. Only at the request of the Vice President of the Japanese Ice Hockey Federation Nihon Aisuhokkē Renmei did the offensive player return to the ice both nationally and internationally in 2011.

Kubo subsequently played for the Seibu Princess Rabbits in the All Japan Women's Ice Hockey Championship and participated with the national team in both the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . As the top scorer in the qualifying group, she played a decisive role in the successful qualification.
