The Nihon Aisuhokkē Renmei ( Japanese 日本 ア イ ス ホ ッ ケ ー 連 盟 , German  Japanese Ice Hockey Federation , English Japan Ice Hockey Federation , short: JIHF ) is the umbrella organization of ice hockey in Japan and since January 26, 1930 a full member of the Ligue internationale de hockey sur glace - LIHG . After the Second World War , Japan was excluded and reopened at the LIHG's Paris Congress in 1951.

National teams

The association currently maintains both a men's and a women's national team as well as junior teams. At the 2008 IIHF World Championship, Division I, Group B (Men), which was held in Sapporo from April 13-19, 2008 , hosts Japan won the bronze medal behind Hungary and the Ukraine. The Japanese national team with head coach Mark Mahon finished 22nd in the IIHF world rankings after the 2008 World Championships . At the same time, the women were in ninth place.

A total of 20,731 Japanese people practice ice hockey under the leadership of the federation, of which 14,679 are men, 3,200 women and 6,052 are junior players. The association also has 861 referees. The Japanese association operates the Asia League Ice Hockey together with other East Asian national associations .
