The Kuhhaut ( 3190 m above sea level ) is a mountain peak of the Eichhamstock in the Venediger Group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It lies on the border between the municipal areas of Prägraten am Großvenediger and Matrei in East Tyrol . Neighboring peaks are the Wunspitze in the southeast, the Hohe Eichham in the north and the Säulkopf with the Säulspitze in the east. The first ascent took place in 1908 by F. Kratzer and A. Kröll.
location
The Kuhhaut is a comparatively harmless pre-summit of the Wunspitze, which probably owes its name to its brownish sandy back, which is sometimes covered with patches of snow. In earlier times the summit was also known as the Hintere Wunspitze or Hinterer Schornagl . The cow skin is located in the southwest of the Eichhamstock in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . West of the Kuhhaut is the valley of the Kleiner Eichhambächles and the Timmeltal . In the south of the cowhide covers Large Nilltal that the village east Bobojach in the Virgen Valley opens. From the Kuhhaut a ridge extends north to the Hohen Eichham ( 3371 m above sea level ), with the southern Eichhamscharte ( 3125 m above sea level ) lying between Kuhhaut and Eichham . To the west of the Eichhamscharte stretches between Eichham and Kuhhaut, the little Nilkees, which hardly exists, to the east, the Nilkees. The southwest ridge of the Kuhhaut leads to the Wunspitze ( 3219 m above sea level ), and a ridge branches off from the southeast ridge a little south of the Kuhhaut, which leads east to the Säulspitze ( 3137 m above sea level ).
Promotion opportunities
The normal route to the Kuhhaut leads over the Bonn-Matreier Hütte into the cirque north of the hut on a marked trail and the east ridge of the Säulkopf to its summit. This was followed by the descent into the Säulscharte and over the Nilkees up to the Eichhamscharte. From the Eichhamscharte the further ascent led initially without climbing over the gentle ridge to the summit of the Kuhhaut. The cow skin is often crossed on the way to the Wunspitze or serves as an additional summit victory when climbing the Eichhams.
