The Wunspitze ( 3217  m above sea level , sometimes also 3219  m above sea level ) is a mountain peak of the Eichhamstock in the Venediger group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located in the east of the municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger . Neighboring peaks are the Wunwand in the southwest and the Kuhhaut in the northeast. In the east are also the column head with the column top.

location

The Wunspitze is located in the southwest of the Eichhamstock in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . To the north of the Wunspitze is the valley of the Kleiner Eichhambächles, to the east the Timmeltal . In the south of the Wunspitze extends Large Nilltal that the village east Bobojach in the Virgen Valley opens. The southwest ridge stretches from the Wunspitze to the Wunwand ( 3061  m above sea level ), the southern ridge is called Golling. The northeast ridge rises jagged and as a sharp edge to the comparatively insignificant cow skin ( 3190  m above sea level ), with another ridge branching off in front of the cow skin that extends to the top of the column ( 3137  m above sea level ).

Promotion opportunities

The normal route to the Wunspitze leads over the Bonn-Matreier Hütte into the cirque north of the hut on a marked trail and the east ridge of the Säulkopf to its summit. This was followed by the descent into the Säulscharte and over the Nilkees up to the Eichhamscharte. From the southern Eichhamscharte the further ascent led initially without climbing over the cow skin. This is followed by the further path in climbing over the approximately 500 meter long east ridge interspersed with towers and notches to the summit of the Wunspitze (difficulty II + according to UIAA ). The towers on the ridge on the east side are bypassed. There are also two alternative approaches for the ascent via the northeast ridge. On the one hand, the ascent can take place over the sandy soil and a rock step, from which the Nilkees and the southern Eichhamscharte can be reached. On the other hand, starting from the Bonn-Matreier Hütte, the Wunwand on the Venediger Höhenweg can also be bypassed, after which the ascent along the Kleiner Eichhambächles takes place east to the Eichhamkar up to the southern Eichhamscharte.

Another variant is the south ridge with a ridge height of 700 meters, which was first climbed on July 20, 1932 by Hilde Burghardt and A. Trost. Starting from the Bonn-Matreier Hütte, the path to the Eisseehütte is used to the foot of the south ridge, before the south ridge can be climbed over spikes, towers and smaller notches (difficulty IV according to UIAA). The east wall with a wall height of 300 meters was first used on August 20, 1934 by A. Santner and W. Trost for the ascent to the Wunspitze. The former took place at the highest point of the debris under the east wall in a chimney, which is interrupted at a height of 120 meters (difficulty IV - according to UIAA). The north-west wall with a height of 319 meters was again used on August 8, 1932 by E. Mille, R. Klose and W. Blechschmidt for the ascent. The first to climb this variant used a snow-leading gorge in the north-west face for the ascent, whereby the former takes place at a thin crack visible from below, which begins above the lowest third of the gorge. The further ascent then follows the crack to the ridge. which strikes up against the serrated crown to the west of the summit (difficulty IV according to UIAA).
