Culture award of the city of Aschaffenburg

The City of Aschaffenburg Culture Prize has been awarded regularly since 1996 by the city's own "Aschaffenburg Culture Prize Foundation" . The prize is intended to recognize and promote “particularly outstanding achievements in the area of ​​cultural life in the city of Aschaffenburg ”.

History and endowment

The awarding authority, the “Stiftung Kulturpreis Aschaffenburg” , was established at the end of 1994 by the city of Aschaffenburg as a public foundation under civil law with its seat in Aschaffenburg. They are equipped with a so-called basic stock of 100,000 DM , half of which was provided by the local building contractor Adam Hörnig and the city of Aschaffenburg. The foundation is administered by a three-person board. Members of the Foundation Advisory Board, which among other things decides on the awarding of the prize, are currently: Lord Mayor Klaus Herzog , Mayor Werner Elsässer, six members of the City Council, Member of Parliament and university professor Winfried Bausback and the heads of the cultural institutions of the city of Aschaffenburg.

The price was initially 10,000 DM and is now endowed with 5,000 euros . According to the statutes, the prize should be awarded as undivided as possible.

As with the previous award ceremonies, the 2008 Culture Prize was personally presented to the winner, cabaret artist Urban Priol . The Lord Mayor Klaus Herzog paid tribute to Priol's commitment to the city's culture at a ceremony in front of invited guests in the Martinushaus in Aschaffenburg. The laudation was given by Bavaria's Science and Art Minister Dr. Thomas Goppel and then presented the award.

Regional and supra-regional perception

The award of the Aschaffenburg Culture Prize is regularly reported in the media , especially in the regional area. However, the culture award is also recognized nationwide; For example, the Süddeutsche Zeitung dealt with the awarding of the prize to the conductor Josef Zilch in May 2000 and highlighted the Aschaffenburg Culture Prize in a later report on Zilch in August 2002 ("two years ago [...] the coveted culture prize of the city of Aschaffenburg") .

The ZDF reported on the awarding of the prize to the historian Guido Knopp in 2004 in various television news programs and also issued its own press release , which was printed in several newspapers nationwide.
