Parish church St. Kunibert in Untereisesheim

The parish church of St. Kunibert is a Protestant parish church in Untereisesheim in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg . The church has been documented since the late Middle Ages. The art treasures of the simple church are some historical tombstones of the Lords of Lomersheim as well as an ornate modern altar window.

history

The origins of the church in Untereisesheim are in the dark. A church there was mentioned for the first time towards the end of the 13th century in the pension register of the Wimpfener Ritterstift created by Burkhard von Hall on the occasion of the donation of a field to the church ( ad ecclesiam in inferiori Isensheim ). The church saint Kunibert was not mentioned in connection with the church until after the 13th century. If the church has always been dedicated to him, its origins are likely to be in the 10th century, the height of the worship of Kunibert relics. The patronage rights of the church originally belonged to the Lichtenstern Monastery and in 1493 it passed to the Lords of Lomersheim , who had also acquired local rule shortly before . Under Konrad von Lomersheim, the Reformation was carried out in Untereisesheim in 1529 with the appointment of the first Protestant pastor, Theobald Appenhofer . The church was probably renewed in 1561, the church tower, which was built on the vault of an old sacristy, still dates from that time. In the times of need of the 17th century, Untereisesheim came to Württemberg and was at times a branch parish of Obereisesheim , before its own parish was established again in 1700. In 1738 the nave, which is said to have been in dire condition , was rebuilt and enlarged. In 1934 the church building and tower were repaired, in 1964 the inside of the church was extensively renovated, and an exterior renovation with exposure of the corner sandstone took place in 1997. The interior of the church was renovated again in autumn 2009.

description

Look at the choir

The church is located on the south-eastern outskirts of Untereisesheim on a hill. It is a single-aisled hall church with a choir facing east. Access to the church is through the basement of the 27 meter high church tower on a square floor plan, which adjoins the nave to the west and in which four bells procured in 1964 are hung. The tower is dated to the year 1561 with an inscription stone above a tower window. Above the tower entrance, an inscription plaque reminds of the new building of the nave in 1738. A sacristy is attached to the south of the nave . On the north side of the nave, a stone with the coat of arms of Württemberg from the 18th century is embedded above a walled older portal .

The interior of the church is kept very simple and characterized by the interior renovation in 1964. In the center of the choir is the altar with an altar crucifix, to the left of which is the pulpit . A gallery has moved in to the west of the nave , on which a modern electronic church organ has been installed since 2016.

In the south wall of the nave is a historical grave slab made of sandstone, which shows the deceased (probably one of the Lords of Lomersheim) as a life-size relief sculpture. In the tower passage there are four more historical grave slabs with coats of arms. On the outer wall of the sacristy attached to the south of the nave, there are two further historical sandstone epitaphs .

The altar windows visualize The Creed. The central window shows scenes from the life of Christ and was designed in 1979 by the Stuttgart artist A. Saile. In the windows to the side there are fragments of the historical glazing with noble coats of arms. In 2017, on the double anniversary of 500 years of the Reformation and 1250 years of Untereisesheim, daughter A. Sailes Anna Dora Kunz congenially added the window of creation (left / God the Father) and the Pentecost window (right / Holy Spirit). The two anniversary windows that were inaugurated on Reformation Day 2017 reflect the priorities of the Untereisesheim parish.
