The Kuratorium für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik eV (KWF) is a registered, non-profit association and is supported by over 2500 members. The KWF is the competence center for forest work , forest technology and wood logistics in Germany and Europe. The association is based in Groß-Umstadt (Hesse).
history
The KWF was founded in 1962 as a merger of the Technical Central Office of German Forestry (TZF) and the Society for Forest Work Science (GEFFA). It continues the tasks of its two predecessor institutions dating back to 1925/1927 and the Central Office for Forest Technology Tests (ZFP) in Potsdam-Bornim, which was created in parallel after the war. The KWF is the only supraregional institution of its kind, the German central office for the nationwide processing of practice-related forest engineering tasks, both scientific and technical-practical.
tasks
The Kuratorium für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik eV (KWF) informs and advises all actors in the forest, wood and bioenergy sectors and is available to everyone as a contact. It focuses on the common good and transnationally on the important tasks of securing the future, avoiding accidents and environmental protection. This makes the KWF an example of the joint, division of labor, rational and future-oriented handling of tasks by the federal and state governments.
The KWF is the only nationwide and transnational organization that tests and certifies forest technology , forestry work equipment and protective equipment. It awards the coveted used stamps "KWF-Profi" and "KWF-Standard", the KWF test mark, but also the DPLF and GS marks. The KWF also mediates across sectors between research, practice and industry in the fields of forest, wood and bioenergy. It is also available as a project partner in these areas.
The KWF organizes the KWF conference . It is one of the largest forest trade fairs in the world and takes place every four years at different locations. At various other trade fair events, the KWF also organizes special shows on the topics of forest and wood.
At the association's headquarters in Groß-Umstadt, the KWF organizes specialist forums, seminars, workshops and expert discussions on current topics from forestry practice.
The KWF certification mark
With its forest engineering competence, the KWF is the specialized test center, and awards the following test marks for forestry practice and manufacturers:
Use value test
Originally, all successfully tested forestry work equipment was given a uniform test seal by the Forestry Testing Committee (FPA) founded in 1949 - the so-called "test acorn". In order to better integrate the testing work into the overall work of the KWF, the FPA decided in 2005 to transform the FPA test mark into a KWF usable value mark.
Forestry equipment that has been extensively tested by the KWF has been awarded the utility mark since 2006. Products bearing this test mark have been proven to meet all occupational safety, ergonomic, environmental and economic standards as well as the current state of the art. The exam includes technical measurements, forestry tests and practical surveys. If the result is positive, the responsible forestry inspection committee (FPA) decides on the judgment "FPA-recognized" - if necessary, also on requirements for necessary improvements. The test reports are published on the KWF website. They contain the test results, an assessment and additional information on the area and focus of use.
The utility stamps "KWF-Profi" and "KWF-Standard" have existed since 2010. This was necessary in order to also be used in the growing area of non-commercial users and in special areas such as B. the landscape, wood and tree care to define basic requirements for safety and operational suitability.
KWF professional
The test mark has been awarded since 2010. It replaces the "KWF-use value" symbol that was used until then and the older FPA symbol. The new symbol is identical in content. Forestry equipment that has been awarded this test mark meets the high demands of professional forest work. They go through the complete utility value test and are demonstrably safe, ergonomic, environmentally friendly and economical. In addition, they have proven their suitability for use in twelve-month practical assignments.
KWF standard
The KWF test mark, also introduced in 2010, bears the word “Standard”. All test objects go through a complete utility value test. In any case, all safety aspects must be met in full and according to the same criteria as with "KWF-Profi". "KWF-Standard" is specially designed for products that set themselves apart from the high demands of professional forestry use. This relates - depending on the product group - to the materials used, wearing comfort, performance weight, ease of use and the like. The criteria for this are continually adapted to the current state of the art. The aim is that even occasional users - for example those who buy firewood or the like - can rely on tested security in a price segment that is sufficient for their purposes.
KWF test
The KWF test mark is awarded to products for which individual technical features have been successfully tested: e.g. B. Measurement accuracy for crane harvesters, function of tire pressure control systems, outdoor suitability of mobile data recording devices, standard quality for special fuels. The test mark names the tested feature.
Occupational safety
Technical work equipment must be marked with "CE". The manufacturer thus confirms that the basic safety requirements and relevant legal provisions have been met. The KWF advises manufacturers and users and carries out EC type tests.
The KWF is a certified GS test laboratory and can check compliance with the safety requirements of machines and devices. As part of the German Test Center for Agriculture and Forestry Technology (DPLF), it awards the GS mark or the ET mark.
International
The KWF exams are not limited to Germany, but are internationally oriented. This is guaranteed by the participation of the KWF in the ENTAM test center network. Experts from European partner institutions participate in the KWF's test committees and ensure that the test is relevant for all of Europe. The range of institutions involved ensures compliance with special requirements for tested technology, for example under alpine conditions or in flatlands. This gives the KWF tests European relevance.
