Kurt Domke was a British prisoner of war from 1945 to 1947.

Kurt Domke (born June 22, 1914 in Forst an der Neisse ; † March 20, 2018 in Bad Dürkheim ) was a German gymnast.

life and career

Domke initially did gymnastics for the Berge-Forst gymnastics club. In 1935 he took part in the Olympic qualifications for German gymnasts. In October 1935 he still belonged to the extended circle of the German Olympic team, the 30 best German gymnasts.

On November 16, 1935, he became Brandenburg Champion in Spandau and thus fought for participation in the German Championships in Frankfurt. In 1936 he could not defend the title because he had to fulfill his army duty.

At the German Championships in Stuttgart in 1937 he was 41.

A year later he was active for the Aeltere Casseler gymnastics community .

In January 1938 he took third place behind Alfred Schwarzmann and Willi Stadel in a competition between the Aelteren Cassel gymnastics community against the Heeressportschule Wünsdorf .

Domke was also Hessian Gaumeister in the all-around and individual champion on parallel bars and pommel horse . At the German Championships in Karlsruhe , he was 24.

At the end of March / beginning of April 1938 he did gymnastics as a member of the German team on an advertising trip in Austria in the course of the annexation of Austria to the National Socialist German Reich . On this trip, 36 top German gymnasts were gathered in two German teams.

In 1950 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state selection.

At his death, Domke was considered the oldest gymnast in Germany. He was a member of the Hameln Gymnastics Club from 1880.
