Kurt Härzschel

Kurt Härzschel (born June 8, 1924 in Groß Mangersdorf , Upper Silesia , † October 22, 2010 in Schopfheim ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

After attending school, Härzschel was drafted into the Wehrmacht and had participated in World War II as a soldier since 1941 . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the British, from which he was released in 1948.

After his release from captivity, Härzschel completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and worked in this profession until 1963. In addition, he was a union member, joined IG Metall in 1953 and was chairman of the works council from 1956 to 1962. In 1966 he took up a position as social secretary at the Evangelical Church in Baden .

Political party

Härzschel had been a member of the CDU since 1956. From 1971 to 1988 he was chairman of the Christian Democratic Workers' Union (CDA) in Baden-Württemberg and from 1971 to 1989 deputy federal chairman of the CDA.

MP

From 1965 to 1999, Härzschel was a member of the city council of Schopfheim and from 1985 to 1995 a member of the district council of the Lörrach district . He belonged to the German Bundestag from October 28, 1963, when he replaced the late Heinrich Höfler , until 1965, and from October 19, 1967, when he replaced Heiner Geißler , until 1976. From 1973 to 1977 he was also a member of the European Parliament .

Public offices

From 1976 to 1984, Härzschel was State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
