Kurt Hinze (born October 13, 1934 in Elbingerode ) is a former German biathlete and biathlon trainer.

Kurt Hinze was one of the most important protagonists in the early stages of biathlon sport in Germany and is considered the "father of biathlon sport in Thuringia " and was one of the first representatives of sport in Thuringia alongside Horst Nickel , Herbert Kirchner , Egon Schnabel , Günter Baacke and Horst Hübner . When the sport first became Olympic in 1960 , the athlete from ASK Vorwärts Oberhof in Squaw Valley and three of his club mates represented Germany as part of the all-German team . With nine shooting errors and thus 18 penalty minutes, Hinze was 20th out of 30 starters. After his playing career, he became a coach. At times he was the head coach of the GDR national biathlon team. Together with the Italian Paul Zingerle , he introduced the Biathlon World Cup in the 1970s . In the 1980s, together with Helmut Klöpsch and Wilfried Bock , he was in charge of the GDR junior national teams. After German reunification , Hinze became the discipline trainer of the biathlon men at the German Ski Association, succeeding Uwe Müßiggang . After allegations became public that Hinze had systematically doped GDR athletes as a trainer and these allegations were substantiated, the cooperation with the DSV was ended at the end of 1991. A lawsuit was carried out against Hinze. He later became an advisor to the ÖSV and was chairman of the technical commission of the IBU World Biathlon Association .

Kurt Hinze has four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One of his grandchildren is the bobsleigh pilot Maximilian Arndt .
