Kurt Kowalski (born December 14, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player . The defensive player played nine league games in the Bundesliga with 1. FC Köln in the 1970/71 season .

career

Kowalski started with football in 1956 in the youth team at 1. FC Spich , and in 1962 the talented young footballer moved to the youth team at Siegburger SV 04 . He had inherited his enthusiasm for football and the talent for the football game from his father and proved this in his first two years in the senior division with Siegburg in the Mittelrhein Association League . The next step was for the 1968/69 season when he switched to the amateur team of 1. FC Cologne.

After two years with the FC amateurs, Kowalski was taken over into the professional squad for the 1970/71 season, as were Bernhard Cullmann and Hans-Jürgen Lex . Other newcomers for this Bundesliga round were Hans-Josef Kapellmann , Thomas Parits , Wolfgang John and Manfred Classen . Coach Ernst Ocffekt used the defender a total of 14 times for 1. FC Köln in the 1970/71 season ; nine games in the Bundesliga and five appearances in the Messestädte-Pokal . Often even from the beginning and for a full 90 minutes. Kowalski's first competitive appearance as a professional took place on November 3, 1970 at the home game against Fiorentina in the trade fair cup. In the 1-0 home win, he came on for Matthias Hemmersbach at the beginning of the second half . On November 14th he made his debut in the 2-2 away draw against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Bundesliga. In front of goalkeeper Manfred Manglitz, he formed the defensive of FC with Bernd Cullmann, Wolfgang Weber , Hemmersbach and Heinz Simmet as right-back defender. He also represented Cologne in two games against Spartak Trnava (1: 0, 3: 0) and in March 1971 against Arsenal London (1: 2, 1: 0) in the trade fair cup. With his substitution on June 5, 1971 in the 4-2 home win against Kickers Offenbach, on the 34th round matchday, his Bundesliga career ended. Even in retrospect, incomprehensibly early. When asked why his career as a licensed player, which had begun so hopefully at 1. FC Köln, ended so abruptly in the summer of 1971, Kowalski answered somewhat cryptically: “There was an incident at the time that I don't want to talk about. In any case, I was then advised to leave the club. Certainly I made mistakes myself, but if I had known at the time that Ocffekt would have to leave after only one year, I would not have agreed to the change of club, since my contract ran until 1972. "

Kowalski moved to the second-rate Regionalliga West for Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the 1971/72 season . Under coach Theo Kirchberg , he made his debut on August 15, 1971 in a 2-1 home win against Fortuna Cologne in the Regionalliga. He ran on the side of fellow players such as goalkeeper Dieter Ferner , Helmut Röhrig , Klaus Görtz , Friedhelm Strzelczyk , Burkhard Segler and Willi Marzok . Bayer finished 8th and Kowalski had scored two goals in 22 league games. In his second season, 1972/73 , Gero Bisanz took over as coach at Bayer. It was an unfortunate lap which ended with the descent to the amateur camp. The last regional league game played Kowalski on April 1, 1973 in a 1: 8 away defeat at Fortuna Cologne. After a total of 40 regional league appearances (2 goals), the chapter of professional football was over in the summer of 1973 and he returned for two rounds to his home club 1. FC Spich, where he ended his football career in 1975.

The trained toolmaker worked until his retirement in 2006 as a technical employee at the Bayer works in Leverkusen and lives in the Troisdorf district of Oberlar .
