Kurt Rossacher

Kurt Rossacher (born July 31, 1918 in Graz , † October 10, 1988 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian art historian and art collector .

Life

Kurt Rossacher was born into a traditional art dealer family. He began studying German and art history in Prague, which he continued in Frankfurt at the beginning of World War II . In Frankfurt his preference for artistic design developed .

Kurt Rossacher was a co-founder of the Salzburg and Vienna antiques fair. He was editor of the magazine Alte und Moderne Kunst . As an art historian, he recognized the golden tableware of the Salzburg Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau in the Palazzo Pitti in Florence.

The Rossacher Collection , the private art collection with his wife Else Rossacher, with 139 oil paintings, 42 wood or clay models and graphics with approx. 150 sheets became the basic stock of the Salzburg Baroque Museum and was stored in the Salzburg Museum when it closed in 2012 . Only occasionally (since 2014) parts of the collection are shown in special exhibitions in the northern oratorio of Salzburg Cathedral .
