Carlo Innocenzo Carlone , also Carlo Innocenzo Carloni , mostly called Carlo Carlone , (* November 1686 in Scaria ; † May 17, 1775 ibid) was a Lombard painter and fresco artist .

Life

Carlo Carlone came from the Carlone family of artists . He was born in Scaria as the son of the builder, sculptor and plasterer Giovanni Battista Carlone and died there in 1775. He is a pioneer of the Rococo with his colorful frescoes and altarpieces . After he had created many works in Germany and Austria, he returned in more mature years to northern Italy, where he still produced a large number of works.

  • The altarpiece "Descent from the Cross" in the south transept shows a diagonal structure and was painted in bright colors in 1731.
  • Altar sheet “Death of St. Josef ”, stucco altar in the north aisle, first altar starting from the west: also from 1731.
Brühl , Augustusburg Castle
  • Around 1750 the fresco "Magnanimity and Generosity of Clemens August" was created in the stairwell (The builder, the Elector and Archbishop of Cologne, came from the Wittelsbach family.) The fresco, together with the stairwell by Balthasar Neumann, forms a spatial work of art of high quality. In the garden hall “Glorification of the Emperor Charles VII”, in the dining and music room “Apollo and the Muses” and in the Johannes von Nepomuk chapel “Glorification of Saint John v. N. “as well as an altarpiece in oil.

  • New corps de logis, oval vestibule (= entrance hall from the inner courtyard of the castle): the ceiling painting was probably created by Carlo Carlone's hand around 1735. It represents the homage to the arts. The figurative, especially the herm figures there are by Diego Carlone , a main representative of the Northern Italian traveling artist.
  • Court Church: Dome fresco (1719/20) with the glory of the Trinity and the high altar image (1720), an image of the Last Supper. The figural stucco work in the court church was shared by Diego Carlone and Ad. Casp. Seefried. The figures of David and Solomon on the high altar are by Diego Carlone.
  • The ceiling painting of the ancestral gallery is considered a major work by Carlo Carlone. The length of the gallery ceiling is divided into fields of different sizes with allegorical representations of ancient mythology . The central ceiling area shows the main theme: The sciences and arts glorify the Duke.
