Short valley viaduct

The Kurzes Tal-Viadukt is a railway bridge of the Odenwaldbahn in the district of Unter-Sensbach , part of the town of Oberzent , in the Odenwaldkreis in the southern Odenwald .

location

The Kurzes Tal-Viadukt is located between the Hesseneck Kailbach stop and the Eberbach train station , a few meters from the border between Hesse and Baden-Württemberg on the Hessian side, across from Friedrichsdorf , a district of Eberbach . The bridge spans the Itter side valley of the same name .

Architecture and history

The approx. 60 m long short valley viaduct consists of quarry stone masonry that was faced with sandstone blocks. The viaduct was built in the years 1880–1882 and its construction is a scaled-down copy of the Himbächel viaduct on the same route. On May 27, 1882, the structure was opened to traffic together with the opening of the Kailbach– Eberbach section .

Monument protection

The railway bridge is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . The viaduct is a fine example of civil engineering in the 1880s.
