The Kyllburg is a partially preserved hilltop castle on the Kyllberg in the town of Kyllburg in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

From 1239 the Kyllburg was built by the Archbishop of Trier Theoderich to protect the Archbishopric of Trier against the Malberg dynasty and shortly afterwards it was included in the fortification of the place.

To cover the costs of this castle construction , Archbishop Theoderich sold the fiefs of Roßporten, which had fallen back through the death of Agnes von Malberg , with the approval of his Trier cathedral chapter for 200 pounds to the monastery of St. Thomas .

Theodoric's successor Arnold II surrounded the castle and the adjoining houses with a solid wall in 1256. With the abbot Jofrid von Prüm he concluded a contract on August 16, 1256 because of their mutual fortifications .
