Kyoko Kitamura
Kyoko Kitamura ( Japanese 北 村 京 子 , Kitamura Kyouko ; * around 1970) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( vocals , composition ).
Live and act
Kyoko Kitamura grew up in New York City and Tokyo. She received piano lessons at the pre-college of the Juilliard School of Music . First she worked as a television journalist for Fuji Television ; Among other things, she reported from the Gulf War in 1990/91 and then worked as a news reporter in Paris. When she moved back to New York in 1997, she worked as a magazine writer.
From the turn of the millennium she was active as a singer in the New York music scene. a. with Steve Coleman ( Lucidarium , Label Bleu 2004), Jamie Baum , Taylor Ho Bynum and in the formations Electric Percussive Orchestra, Syntactical Ghost and Trance Music Choir . The first recordings were made in 2002 with the Laura Andel Orchestra. In 2010 she released her solo album Armadillo in Sunset Park . From 2010 she worked with Anthony Braxton , heard on his albums Trillium J, 12 Duets (DCWM) 2012, Trillium E and Syntactical GTM Choir (NYC) 2011 . With Braxton, she also played a leading role in its Tri-Centric Foundation . She is currently (2018) studying counterpoint and Arnold Schönberg's theory of harmony with Paul Caputo . In mid-2018 she presented the album Protean Labyrinth with her own compositions, which she recorded with Ingrid Laubrock , Ken Filiano and Dayeon Seok .
