action
The subject of the film is a fictional event, in which, however, motifs of the famous mutiny on the Bounty are processed.
At the end of the 18th century, the British warship Blossom sets course for the South Seas. On board, Captain Burt leads a cruel regiment. Unjust punishments are common. When the cabin boy dies at the hand of Burt, the mood on board has reached zero: the despotic captain is shot by Mason, the first officer.
Mason realizes with horror that the crew will have to pay a high price for liberation from the tyrant: The way to England is forever blocked for the crew. There she ran the risk of being hanged for mutiny .
After Mason has taken command of the Blossom, it first sails to Tahiti . There, the occupation succeeds in recruiting several Tahitians, including women, as reinforcements. On the subsequent voyage, the crew discovers an island that has not yet been recorded on the Admiralty's maps and which is therefore ideal as a hiding place. After all, it must be expected that sooner or later the Admiralty will search for the Blossom in order to clarify its whereabouts.
Once on the island, the mutineers' initial unity quickly begins to break apart. Resentment and discord are the order of the day. Two camps are formed that fight each other to the point of blood.
Reviews
Like the novel, the film was received very positively by the audience. In France he was awarded the 7 d'Or award for best screenplay. Above all, the fact that the film deals very profoundly with the sociological problems of the mutineers on the island is praised. This aspect was always ignored in other variations of the bounty motif.
In terms of style and narrative culture, the film shows a similarity to the adventure quads of producer Walter Ulbrich , which is also rated positively.
