Karina Lombard (born January 21, 1969 in Tahiti , French Polynesia ) is an American actress .

Life

Karina Lombard was born the daughter of Henry Lombard, the Russian-Swiss heir to a Geneva banking family, and Nupuree Lightfoot, a medicine woman from the Lakota , a Sioux Indian tribe . Her mother died nine months after giving birth. She then moved to Barcelona with her father , spent her school days in various Swiss boarding schools and is therefore fluent in French , English , German , Spanish and Italian . When she was 18, she went to New York City to become an actress. Photographer Bruce Weber , looking for models for the Calvin Klein Native Americans campaign , discovered Lombard in a café. From then on, she was featured as a model in renowned magazines such as Elle and Vogue . In 2005, Lombard was featured in a feature in Playboy magazine .

Lombard took acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York and at the famous actors' studio The Actors Studio . She gained her first acting experience at the Gallery Theater and the Neighborhood Playhouse .

Her film career began in 1987 with the female lead in the French series Island of the Mutineers ( L'Île ) after director François Leterrier discovered Karina on the cover of 20 ANS magazine . This was followed by the role of Antoinette Cosway in the film Wide Sargasso Sea , directed by John Duigan , for which she received not only excellent reviews but also the First Americans in the Art (FAITA) award. Brad Pitt selected her for the role of Isabel Two in Legends of Passion , and she also starred alongside Tom Cruise in The Company .

Lombard became known in Germany through season 1 of the US Showtime series The L Word , which was broadcast on ProSieben from May to August 2006 , when she played the role of the mysterious Marina Ferrer, owner of the West Hollywood café The Planet , the favorite Meeting point of the L-Word clique, especially the heart of Jenny Schecter ( Mia Kirshner ). Not seen in seasons 2 and 3, Lombard had a few guest appearances in season 4, which was broadcast in the US from January 2007 on pay TV ( Showtime ). From 2005 to 2006 she was in two seasons of the series 4400 - The Returnees as Alana Mareva.

Lombard also works as a singer (theme song Femmes Océanes from the film L'Île ) and songwriter (for Cirque du Soleil ). In 2004 she performed with violinist Dorian Cheah in Los Angeles and is working on her first own album.

Lombard was married to actor and model Anthony Crane for seven years from 1991 .
