The noise fire is 501.7 m above sea level. NHN high wooded mountain in the Hessian Odenwald on the western edge of the Ober-Mossau district of the Mossautal municipality in the Odenwaldkreis .
The noise fire is part of the path dividing ridge that forms the western border of the Buntsandstein-Odenwald at the transition to the Vorderen Odenwald . This mountain range extends from the Wegscheide in the south to the Morsberg in the north. The ridge line forms the watershed between the Gersprenz and Mümling areas . The Rohrbach rises on the western slope of the noise fire and flows into the Osterbach , the right source river of the Gersprenz, and on the southwest slope lies the source of the Streitbach , which, like the source grounds on the eastern slope, the Krottenloch and the Baiersgrund , which drain to the Mossaubach Strive towards Mümling.
The name of the mountain comes from the fact that in earlier centuries in the Odenwald in particular on a chain of mountain peaks that were visible from afar , signal stations called noise fires were set up, each consisting of meter-high piles of wood and the burning of which was considered a warning sign for the population of the surrounding areas, especially if there was a risk of war. Here, the name of the signal station has given the mountain its name.
The closest localities are Rohrbach in the north, Erzbach in the northwest, Hiltersklingen in the south, Unter-Mossau in the southeast and Ober-Mossau in the northeast. Rohrbach and Ober-Mossau are connected by the district road 51 , which overcomes the Wegscheidekamm one and a half kilometers north of the noise fire.
