LB Abbott

LB Abbott (full name Lenwood Ballard Abbott , born June 13, 1908 in Pasadena , California , USA ; † September 28, 1985 in Los Angeles , California, USA ) was an American cameraman and special effects designer.

biography

After graduating from high school, LB Abbott found work in the film industry at the age of 18. He began working as a cameraman at Fox Film Corporation, the predecessor of 20th Century Fox , and quickly came into contact with the company's effect designers. In 1943 he became head cameraman at 20th Century Fox and worked under Fred Sersen for the camera department of the special effects group. In 1953 he took over the management of the special effects department for television productions.

He stayed with Fox until he retired from the film business in 1970. But even after his retirement he was repeatedly called back for film projects, especially for big films. The last time he was involved in a film was in 1982. In early 1985 his book Special Effects - Wire, Tape and Rubber Band Style was published.

LB Abbott died on September 28, 1985. He left behind his wife Muriel, whom he married in 1934 and with whom he had two children.
