The Valley of the Dolls (original title: Valley of the Dolls ) is an American film drama directed by Mark Robson from 1967, which is based on the bestseller of the same name by Jacqueline Susann . It's about the rise, drug abuse, and deep fall of three young women in Hollywood .

Anne Welles leaves New England to pursue a career in New York City. But at first it is only enough to be a lawyer’s secretary. She falls in love with his companion, but is later injured by him. After they parted ways, she still gains fame as a photo model.

Neely O'Hara is a singer with great talent. However, intrigue will prevent her career for the time being. After appearing on the radio, however, she achieved the long-awaited fame. But success changes her, and she loses everyone who was close to her. In order to withstand the pressure, she has her "dolls" (the prescription-only opiate Dolantin - play on words with "dolls" - dolls). She is finally convinced by her friend Anne to go to a rehab center.

Jennifer North works on stage and suffers from people not taking her seriously because of her beauty. She meets the singer Tony Polar. In the course of their relationship, she is oppressed by his sister, who was already against the wedding at the time and who manages the two assets. When Tony has a seizure, Jennifer learns that he is terminally ill. Together with her sister-in-law, she admitted him to a clinic. The money saved doesn't last long, and so the sister-in-law introduces Jennifer to a French filmmaker. Your porn career begins. As Tony's condition worsens and Jennifer learns that she has breast cancer, she puts an end to her life with the eponymous "dolls".
