The Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Lesben in Nordrhein-Westfalen , LAG Lesben in NRW eV for short , is a non-partisan association of 48 lesbian groups, associations, initiatives and projects.

goals and tasks

The LAG Lesben in NRW emerged from the lesbian movement that arose as part of the women's movement since the 1970s and was founded in 1996 as an association in Düsseldorf. She wants to make lesbian life more visible in public space and encourage women to live their lesbian identity openly. It is committed to improving the living situation of lesbian women, increasing their social acceptance and participation and generally counteracting discrimination against lesbians, gays and other minorities. That is why it also supports the LSVD's call for the right to sexual self-determination to be included in Article 3 of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany .

The LAG networks its member groups throughout North Rhine-Westphalia by initiating, organizing and coordinating events and public relations work. It acts as an interface between the volunteers and advisers of its member groups on the one hand and politics and administration on the other. She appears in public events on the topic of same-sex lifestyle. Lesbians who want to set up a group in their municipality advises the LAG on lesbian-gay local politics. The LAG Lesbians in North Rhine-Westphalia is funded by the Ministry for Health, Emancipation, Care and Old Age of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The LAG is, among other things, a member of the party and denominational independent Women's Council of North Rhine-Westphalia , which represents four million women from various areas of society.

activities

Augspurg Heymann Prize

From 2009 to 2015, the LAG Lesbians in North Rhine-Westphalia awarded the Augspurg Heymann Prize annually to honor lesbian women who work in public in accordance with the goals of the association. The prize was awarded throughout Germany. The winners were: Mirjam Müntefering (2009), Maren Kroymann (2010), Tanja Walther-Ahrens (2011), Inge von Bönninghausen (2012) and Susanne Baer (2013) In 2014 the award went to the gynecologist, psychotherapist and sex therapist Maria Beckermann. In 2015 the award went to Gudrun Fertig and Manuela Kay , the two publishers from Special Media SDL .

In November 2015 the LAG Lesben in NRW decided not to name the price for courageous lesbians after Augspurg and Heymann after it became known that Heymann should have said in 1907 at an event organized by the Association of Progressive Women's Associations in Frankfurt am Main that one shouldn't should shy away from leaving "laws for the extermination of physical and mental cripples".

CouLe - Prize for Courageous Lesbians

Since 2017, the LAG Lesbians in North Rhine-Westphalia has awarded the CouLe Prize for Courageous Lesbians every year . The redesign of the price for courageous lesbians became necessary after statements by Lida Gustava Heymann from 1907 were published in 2015 that were not compatible with the objective of the price. The jury used this occasion in 2016 to adapt the content of the award to current political debates and socio-political tasks.

Arcus Foundation

In 2010 the LAG Lesbians in NRW and the NRW gay network founded the ARCUS ( Latin rainbow) foundation , which is supported by the two regional associations, after ten years of preparation . It is the first foundation in Germany that lesbians and gays set up together. She wants to support projects that work for greater acceptance of homosexuals. The North Rhine-Westphalian Minister Barbara Steffens took over the sponsorship ; Ambassadors are the TV presenter Bettina Böttinger and the actor Klaus Nierhoff . Chairwoman of the board of the ARCUS Foundation is the managing director of the LAG Lesben in NRW , Gabriele Bischoff.

In 2013, the foundation initiated a memorial service for the first time at the memorial for the gay and lesbian victims of National Socialism in Cologne with a focus on the lesbian victims.

2014, the Arcus Foundation organized together with the German Federal Foundation Magnus Hirschfeld , the Hirschfeld-day , under the motto L (i) ebe the diversity of 16 places with 90 events throughout NRW take place. As a partner, the LAG supports the Hirschfeld Days.

Campaign office different and the same - only respect works

The association is the sponsor of the campaign office different and equal - funded by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia - Nur Respekt Wirkt , the public relations work on the subject of equality of sexual and gender diversity, including the LGBTTI groups (abbreviation for people with a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender or intersex identity) and professionally designed in close coordination with the state government. The campaign was officially launched on May 10, 2012 at the symposium “different and equal in NRW” at the Ruhr University in Bochum . The project is headed full-time by media designer Monica Bauer.

As early as 2011, in the run-up to the women's soccer World Cup in Germany , the LAG Lesbians in NRW had posters and banners for the 20ELF campaign - soccer is everything - also lesbian! Create for openness and acceptance of homosexuality in football . Ten women from the LAG tried to bring a banner with the inscription Football is everything - also lesbian to the World Cup stadium in Mönchengladbach for the game between Brazil and Australia, which was forbidden by FIFA . When asked by the taz, FIFA apologized for the incident.
