The EL 5 series of the LEW Hennigsdorf refers to an electric locomotive that was built in 1979 from 1954 to 1990. 746 of these were built in the main plant and 1233 in the VEB Inducal Göllingen branch .

development

These mine locomotives were built in different versions. Of the 746 locomotives in the main plant, 649 were exported. Of these, 499 locomotives were delivered to China , 54 to Czechoslovakia , 39 to Romania , 35 to Hungary , 16 to Tunisia , 4 to Algeria and 2 to Yugoslavia . Of the 97 locomotives remaining in the country, 50 went to copper, 39 to potash, 4 to the Braunesumpf mine ( Hüttenrode ) and 4 to the mining and smelter combine "Albert Funk" Freiberg . Of the 1233 locomotives built in Göllingen, 551 were delivered as El 5/04 with a track width of 750 mm, 159 as EL 5/05 with a track width of 900 mm and 523 as EL 5/08 with a track width of 600 mm. With the exception of one EL 5/08 for Algeria, all locomotives were exported to the Soviet Union . The orders for 3 EL 5/05 were canceled by the Soviet Union in 1990. Another 150 planned locomotives were no longer built in 1990.

Constructive features

mechanics

The frame of the locomotive was made from welded heavy plate . The frame was first supported by leaf springs and later by helical springs . The wheel sets were on roller bearings and had disk wheels. The brake was designed as a manual spindle brake with brake pads on each wheel. The EL 5 was built in different versions. In addition to locomotives with a central driver's cab, there were also versions with an end driver's cab and a passenger seat at the head end. The pantograph was on the locomotives with a terminal cab on a portal above the frame. In locomotives with a central driver's cab, it was either attached to the driver's cab or to the rear or front porch.

Electrics

The EL 5 series had a manually operated cam travel switch with a mechanical safety travel lock and a self-excited resistance brake with a crossed brake circuit. Each axle was driven by a drive motor in the cradle bearing . The separately ventilated DC series motors connected in parallel were controlled by resistors. Nine series and five parallel speed levels and nine braking levels could be selected with the drive switch. For safety reasons, the lighting is via a 12 V lead-acid battery . The power of a traction motor was 37.5 kW; the maximum tensile force 20 kN.

variants

  • two driver's cabs at the ends of the locomotive
  • with driver's cab and open attendant seat
  • with driver's cab and covered companion seat
  • with central driver's cab
  • with or without drive motor ventilation
  • Deliveries from Göllingen had further variants in the el. And / or mech. part
