action

The young doctor François moves the center of his life from Paris to an idyllic suburb. The residents accept him despite his young age and he is soon integrated into the village community. The young girls in the village are fascinated by him and pretend illnesses in order to be treated by him. Claire succeeds with this scam - François starts an affair with the 14-year-old. She disappoints that he is not ready to enter into a steady relationship with her.

Claire spends a large part of her free time in a clique. Its leader, Cédric, who has always expressed an interest in Claire, eyed the two of them quarreling with suspicion and jealousy. He uses Claire's disappointment to win her heart. He suggests a campaign of revenge in which all children of the village who have organized in the clique should take part. They force François to stop his car at night on a country road with little traffic. At daybreak, a construction worker finds his body in a nearby meadow.

Background information

The budget of the psychodrama is estimated at 1.8 million euros. The German cinema release was on April 28, 2011.

For Géraldine Bajard it is the first independent directorial work for a full-length film. She took inspiration from films like The Wicker Man , The Village of the Damned, and Teorema . The idea for the film, however, arose while reading the novel Le Marin rejeté par la mer by Yukio Mishima . But she also drew inspiration from Lord of the Flies by William Golding and media coverage. With the exception of Pauline Acquart, it was the first contact with the film business for all child actors.

Trivia

Audrey Marnay - she mimes François' partner - worked successfully as a model for Calvin Klein , Chanel and Versace .

criticism

“Directing debutante Géraldine Bajard creates an oppressive image of society, but in the end leaves many questions unanswered. A fragmentary study with too many gaps. "

- TV feature film

“Located in symbolically charged spaces that create a contrast between civilization and wilderness, an atmospherically dense drama develops that focuses less on psychology than on the suggestive-sensual interplay of light, color and music and describes how the bodies and their surroundings to interact."
