biography

Pauline Acquart was discovered by chance on her way home from school in 2006 during a wild casting in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris . She then played one of the three main teenage roles in the film Water Lilies , the first work by author and director Celine Sciamma : As the tender Marie, she falls in love at first sight with the attractive captain of the synchronized swimmers and tries to get closer and closer to her and her love to win, but increasingly neglects her best friend. The film, which tells the topics of friendship, love and first sex exclusively from the perspective of the three main characters, ran at numerous renowned film festivals from May 2007 - even celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival - and brought Pauline Acquart first national and international attention. but without a César nomination as best young actress, which, however, was achieved by her two young film partners Adèle Haenel and Louise Blachère , as was the director of the film.

Since then Pauline Acquart has worked as an actress for film, television and theater. After Water Lilies , she played the leading role of a juvenile suicide in the 32-minute short film Au septième jour in 2007 . The drama was screened at various film festivals, was broadcast by the Franco-German cultural broadcaster Arte and put online in full on Vimeo by director Samuel Doux . Shortly thereafter, Acquart mimed 19-year-old soldier Lily in a music video by the group Moriarty , for which she had to undress, among other things. She herself was significantly younger than the 19-year-old, the video was published online at the end of February 2009.

In 2009, Acquart starred in the television film Mourir d'aimer as the daughter of a 42-year-old teacher who was in love with one of her 15-year-old students. The film by director Josée Dayan is a remake of the drama of the same name by André Cayatte from 1971 and refers to an actual case in France in which the teacher, after the situation became known, was driven to suicide due to the reactions and condemnation from the environment and the public has been. After all, Pauline in Mourir d'aimer , which, like its predecessor, caused a need for discussion in France because of the topic, is present on the screen for almost eight minutes, so she has a major supporting role in a film that reached a large audience thanks to the television broadcast with subsequent discussion. Despite this, after Water Lilies , she did not play a leading role in feature films for several years.

Her following short films include two in collaboration with filmmaker Frédéric Guelaff , who artistically produced them as part of a serial for the Parisian fashion company Indress : The Dutch Room (2010, 11 minutes), where two young women change clothes in a holiday home and musing about love, and Coconut Grove (2011, 14 minutes), in which Pauline Acquart is a chic dressed actress on the run from her agent and the next assignment. In 2014 she played the lead role in the 28-minute film La nuit tombe as a granddaughter who cared about her grandfather and showed in the only 9-minute Perdu d'avance , in which a couple spends time together in a room, among other things. a. some revealing moments. She was also seen in a short film in 2016: Together with actress Faustine Levin and director Aurélien Peyre , she shot the 48-minute film La Bande à Juliette , in which she wants to bring her best friend since childhood together with her new circle of friends, which will develop differently than thought.

In 2010 she played the title role in a play in Snow White ; In 2013 this was also performed at the Salzburg Festival . Further theater roles followed in 2014 and 2015.

After almost nine years, Acquart was back in a leading role in a feature film after Water Lilies : Los Feliz had its premiere on February 18, 2016 in Vienna. The Austrian artist and filmmaker Edgar Honetschläger gave her the role of Lydia , a young French woman who makes a pact with the devil and sets off on a trip from Rome to Los Feliz , a district of Los Angeles , to become famous , but on one condition: love will be denied her forever. She is not only accompanied by the devil, but also by a Japanese Shinto goddess, both in human form. It is literally about "the power of pictures and who makes them and thus has power" and the following: The delusion of eternal youth and the intoxication of lust for life, success, religion and atheism. In the end, Lydia realizes that the price is too high and she hits the devil for a bargain. Los Feliz is a mixture of road movie and art film, whereby the artistic audio-visual is always in the foreground: Implemented throughout with real actors, sometimes at original locations, the journey itself takes place in front of painted backgrounds. A swimming pool and a love scene in Los Feliz act like a bridge to her first leading role in a feature film: She is Marie from Water Lilies , who has now grown up.

In 2016, Dans la chambre , the story of a couple in which Pauline Acquart played the female lead, was in preproduction. This second short film by Christelle Lahaye managed to generate its production budget via crowdfunding. In the same year, the shooting and post-production for this eight-minute short film took place.

Directed by Hélène Fillières , she can be seen in a very small supporting role in the feature film Volontaire , which was released in French cinemas on June 6, 2018. Among the party are u. a. the French actor Lambert Wilson ( La Boum 2 - The party continues ) and the Gaumont film company .

Also in 2018, Pauline Acquart appeared in director Philippe Ramos ' medium-length film "Les grands squelettes" (approx. 70 minutes), a mixture of film and photo elements, whereby the viewer during the fictional story the wishes and thoughts of the characters about love and Can witness sexuality. The film also features a reunion with actress Alice De Lencquesaing, who had a supporting role in Water Lilies .

Towards the end of the same year you could catch a glimpse of Pauline online, in the only two-minute video "I am the town" by Laure Atanasyan, in the credits with her second surname as Pauline Bourquelot . According to author Vera Wagner, the short film was inspired by a poem by Rupi Kaur . Finding self-love and self-fulfillment through making sacrifices, but also the scent of perfume, which noticeably permeates the story in all things and images, are the themes of this short film, according to the author and director.

In the German-speaking world, Pauline Acquart is known almost exclusively for her role in Water Lilies . The film, in the original French with German subtitles, had very limited theatrical use in Germany in 2008, but in the same year it was appropriately released on DVD and was broadcast by Arte in 2010 under the title "Unter Wasser, über Kopf", which together with the Festival successes brought the three main actresses a certain media presence in this country. All of the other films in which Pauline starred either did not find their way to Germany (which accounts for the majority), or received no corresponding media presence, or she only plays a minor role and is therefore not remembered by the viewer ( La Lisière - Am Waldrand ).

A fan base has built up around Pauline Acquart around the world, based on her work in Water Lilies , but also for a long time through her subsequent short and feature films, in which she is increasingly mature and firmly established as an actor.
