La Unión , formerly also called Aguamiro , is a small town in the north of Peru with 5201 inhabitants (as of 2017). 10 years earlier, the population was 4836. It is located in the La Unión district of the same name and is the capital of the Dos de Mayo province in the Huánuco administrative region .

location

The city is located on the right bank of the Río Vizcarra . On the opposite bank of the river is Ripán , the administrative seat of the district of the same name. The places are connected by two bridges. La Unión is located at an altitude of 3204  m . The famous Inca city ​​of Huánuco Pampa , also called “Huánuco Marka” or “Huánuco Viejo” , is located near the city, on a flat plateau about 3600 m above sea level .

The location of the city is the starting point to other places in the neighboring provinces of Dos de Mayo ( Llata , Chavinillo , Huánuco , Rondos ), to the other districts of the province (Sillapata, Pachas, Yanas, Marias) and Huallanca to Huaraz or Chiquián in the Ancash region . In terms of road traffic, the city functions as a central center.

climate

Due to its altitude, the climate is temperate and dry. The rainy season is from November to April, the remaining months of May to September are the dry season. Torrential rains are common during winter. Occasionally, hailstorms also occur. In the summer months, the sunshine is strong and there are high temperatures during the day.

The map shows the way to La Union from the city of Paramonga to adjacent areas of the regions of Ancash, Huánuco and Lima. The city is a middle center. It has electric lighting, water and sewerage. Telecommunication and Internet service is offered by the companies "Claro" and "Movistar".

Due to its geographical location and as the capital of the province, La Union is a trading and transhipment center for goods and agricultural products in the area. Livestock, fruit and vegetable growing are practiced in the surrounding area. In addition, devices for everyday use are produced, there are textile manufacturers and companies that are involved in tourism. With the Banco de la Nación, the city ​​has a bank branch and a regional hospital.

Cáceres , is one of the two bridges over the Río Vizcarra. The stone bridge is only suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. The second bridge, constructed of steel and wood, is used for motorized traffic and has a pedestrian crossing. Local public transport is served by the transport companies "Turismo Cavassa", "Turismo Armonía", "Royal Bus" and "Estrella Polar".

Because of its high altitude and location on the river, there is a temperate and dry climate, which is ideal for people with respiratory diseases and makes the city a popular resort and holiday destination. It is the starting point for visits to the Inca ruins of "Huánuco Pampa", which can be reached via an unpaved road or on foot through the Marcarragra valley . Other tourist destinations include panoramic views of the city and the Vizcarra River from Cerro San Cristobal, and a gorge near Gangash Mark. The thermal baths of "Conoc" are two kilometers away from La Union. There are bars and restaurants for tourists in the village. The most important festival is the "Fiesta del Sol" which takes place at the end of July.
