La Unión is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Sucre in Colombia .

La Unión is located in the southwest of Sucre , in the San Jorge sub-region , 82 km from Sincelejo , at an altitude of 65  m above sea level. NN and has an average annual temperature of about 28 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on Sahagún and Chinú in the Departamento de Córdoba , in the south on San Marcos , in the east on Caimito and in the west on Sahagún.

history

The area of ​​today's La Unión has been used for slave plantations since the 18th century, from which the first settlements emerged. From 1829 on, settlers from different parts of the region came and settled in the area. In 1850 and 1860, Santander de las Lomas and Los Cayos were in the area of ​​today's municipality of La Unión Caseríos (homesteads) of the Corregimientos Caimito. Since 1968 La Unión has had the status of a municipality.
