Sampues is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Sucre in Colombia .

geography

Sampués is located in the west of Sucre , in the Sabanas sub- region , 17 km from Sincelejo , at an altitude of 160 m above sea level. NN and has an annual average temperature of 26 to 29 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on Sincelejo, in the south on Chinú in the Departamento de Córdoba , in the east on Corozal and El Roble and in the west on San Andrés de Sotavento in Cordoba.

history

The area of today's Sampués was already settled by the indigenous people of the Zenú before the arrival of the Spaniards , who were subsequently exploited in the encomienda system . In 1610, Alonso de Padilla named the area San Juan Evangelista de Sampués , which subsequently established itself as a reserve . After Colombia's independence, Sampués became a district and in 1921 a municipality. The original Indian reservation was dissolved in 1920 and the land was auctioned. Today there is an Indian reservation again in the area of the municipality.
