Sucre is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Sucre in Colombia .

Sucre is located in the south of Sucre , in the La Mojana sub-region at an altitude of 20 m above sea level. NN in the lowlands known as depresión momposina , which is characterized by the many wetlands. Sucre is 170 km from Sincelejo . The municipality borders in the northeast on Magangué in the Departamento de Bolívar , in the southeast on Achí in Bolívar, in the south on Majagual and in the west on San Benito Abad .

history
In the area of today's Sucre lived at the Spanish arrived indigenous people of Zenú . At the site of an indigenous settlement, Jerónimo de Bombatí established a new place under the name Boca de Atajo , later Boca de Granadina , around 1700 . As a result, the region began to mestizo. Sucre has had parish status since 1910. After the construction of a canal between the Río Cauca and the Caño Mojana in 1938, the flooding of the area increased, which is why many residents moved away.
economy
Sugar cane has traditionally been Sucre's most important crop, but it has declined due to increased flooding. An industry emerged during the boom in sugar cane, but it subsequently disappeared. Today rice in particular is grown.
Infrastructure
The roads in the community are in poor condition. The important thing is the waterway transport over the many rivers, canals, wetlands and floodplains that connects Sucre with Magangué in particular .
