concept

The 45-minute program was broadcast on ZDF on Saturdays from 4:15 p.m. (originally 3:30 p.m.). There were repetitions from Monday to Friday from 2:15 p.m. Since November 2, 2009, ZDFneo has been repeating the episodes in its morning program. In the show, Lafer and Lichter cooked and entertained, who cooked in the Friday edition of Johannes B. Kerner and Lanz! had already cooked together with two prominent guests. The studio was visually divided into two parts, which should correspond to the kitchen philosophies of the respective host. In accordance with the established image of the respective hosts, Lichter and his guest cooked more down-to-earth home-style cooking, while Lafer and his guest prepared more sophisticated dishes from the upscale cuisine. The mission concept developed Markus Heidemann's business partners by Johannes B. Kerner and Markus Lanz . The program was produced by the production company Fernsehmacher .

The first episode aired on December 9, 2006. The first three episodes each achieved a market share of around ten percent.

In 2007, the show was awarded the negative “ Saure Gurke ” prize by the media women ’s meeting. The reasoning states that the “Stammtisch with its clear allocation of roles” has “found a new home in the kitchen” through the program. Female guests were referred to as “doves by his side” or “nougat-filled marzipan pralines on two legs”.

On September 25, 2010, the 150th episode of the program was broadcast. Kim Fisher and Herbert Feuerstein were guests in the anniversary episode . The singer Semino Rossi took part as a surprise guest. On December 10, 2011, the two cooks' wives took part as guests on the program's fifth anniversary. The restaurateurs Silvia Lafer and Nada Lichter each cooked their husbands' favorite dishes. Karl Dall appeared as a surprise guest and Frank Elstner was on the phone.

From May 3, 2013, the program had a second slot on ZDF as a repetition. This was on the former transmission slot of Lanz is boiling! , Fridays at 11:30 p.m., a repeat of the previous Saturday's broadcast was shown. After only three broadcasts, the repeat on Friday evening was deleted from the program due to poor audience ratings.

The studio kitchens were redesigned for the show's seven-year anniversary at the end of 2013. They were first seen on October 26, 2013 with guests Franziska van Almsick and Jean Pütz .

On December 10, 2015, it was announced that the show would be discontinued with the tenth season. This was decided by Horst Lichter and Johann Lafer together with ZDF. The tenth and final season began on January 9, 2016 and consisted of 25 episodes. In the last broadcast on March 25, 2017, Johann Lafer and Horst Lichter had their former guests Kim Fisher , Katerina Jacob , Steffen Hallaschka and Thomas Anders cook for them. The celebrities were supported by the chef Daniel Lecker.
