The Lai Mort ( Romansh in the idiom Surmiran lai , lake 'and mort ' dead ') is a mountain lake between Tinizong and Bergün to the municipality of Surses in the canton of Grisons in the Swiss Alps . He is at 2603  m above sea level. M. , south of the Pass d'Ela . The lake is located in the middle of Parc Ela , a 600 km² nature park opened in 2006 .

Location and surroundings

The lake is located in the Albula Alps on the small Laiets plateau (Romansh for 'Seechen'). There are two more lakes on the high plateau: the Lai Grond ( 1595  m ) and a lake not listed on the national map at 2648  m northeast of the Pizza Grossa .

Ela round trip

A well-known hike or ski tour for less experienced mountaineers is the Ela round tour. The two-day tour begins in Bergün ( 1367  m ) or Filisur ( 1032  m ) and leads to the Ela Hut ( 2252  m ) on the first day . On the second day, the tour leads over the Pass d'Ela ( 2724  m ), past the three mountain lakes on the Laiets plateau (a nameless lake at 2648  m , Lai Mort and Lai Grond ) to Fuorcla da Tschitta ( 2830  m ) and then to Preda ( 1789  m ).

Duration: 3½ - 4½ hours on the first and 5 hours on the second day.

Access

Signpost on the Laiets plateau.

Frequent starting points are Pensa, Naz , the Ela hut or Plang la Curvanera. The alpine road from Tinizong into the Val d'Err to Penza is closed to general motor vehicle traffic. A little road from Savognin via Tussagn leads to the Plang la Curvanera car park ( 1893  m above sea level ) . A hiking bus runs on Tuesdays and Fridays from Savognin to Penza and on Wednesdays to Plang la Curvanera.
