history

1790–94 Lains took over the previous municipality of Écreux.

On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Lains merged with Dessia and Montagna-le-Templier to form the new municipality of Montlainsia. It belonged to the arrondissement of Lons-le-Saunier and the canton of Saint-Amour .
