The Laire (also L'Aire called) is an approximately 14 km long tributary of the Rhone , of the French department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes springs and in the Swiss Canton of Geneva opens.
course
The Laire has its source in the municipality of Présilly (F), first flows northwards and, after crossing Viry , forms the border between Switzerland and France from the Bois de Rougemont . It now runs west and marks the border of the Swiss communities Soral and Avusy and the French communities Viry and Valleiry . In the municipal area of Chancy (CH) it now completely crosses over to Swiss territory and flows into the Rhône as a left tributary opposite Pougny (F), which forms the border with France here.
history
The course of the Laire has been used since ancient times. Traces of Roman times have been discovered near Chancy, as well as a Burgundian cemetery from the 5th century . In the 19th century the power of water was used for several mills along the course, including at least three in Avusy.
