Lambert Schlechter (born December 4, 1941 in Luxembourg City , Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourgish writer who writes in French and German. He is one of the most important authors in the Grand Duchy .

Live and act

Schlechter was born the son of an actor and graduated from high school in 1963. He studied philosophy and literature in Luxembourg, at the Sorbonne in Paris and in Nancy . From 1970 until his retirement in 2003 he taught philosophy and French at grammar schools in Diekirch and Echternach . His first book, a volume of poetry, appeared in 1981.

From 1973 to 1980 he worked for Amnesty International Luxembourg, from 1997 to 2001 he was also President of the Luxembourg Writers' Association (LSV).

He puts the main focus on poetry, in which he deals with all subjects, but above all love and death. He also wrote prose, but mostly in small texts. His works have also been translated into Italian, and have been published in France , Canada and Belgium . So far, three books have been published in German. He was also able to make a name for himself as an author in newspapers and magazines, for example in the newspaper Luxemburger Wort and the literary magazine Transkrit .

He read at large readings and a. with Dacia Maraini , Guy Helminger and Jean Krier .

For RTL Luxemburg he took part in various literary programs on television and radio, and in the mid-1960s he worked as a student for SWR and moderated the program Lyrik this time .

  • Schlechter is a staunch opponent of the death penalty , which he is passionate about.
  • He also traveled a lot in Africa and read in Cotonou ( Benin ) and Yaoundé ( Cameroon ).
  • On April 15, 2015, his home was badly damaged by fire, injuring the author. The Grand Duke Henri visited him to support him; the Minister of Culture Maggy Nagel also supported him.
