State Sportsman of the Year (Burgenland)

The athlete election of the year has been taking place in Burgenland since 2000 and is carried out by the Burgenland sports journalists.

This prize is awarded in the four categories of Sportswoman of the Year , Sportswoman of the Year , Team of the Year and Coach of the Year (since 2002). First of all, five nominees are announced from among all candidates. From these top 5 in each category, the winner is then chosen in a secret ballot, who is then officially announced at the night of the sport . The choice of athletes is supported by the Burgenland sports pool.

In addition, the Wolfgang Mesko Trophy for the best young athletes and the prize of the Pepi-Kamper Foundation will be awarded at the Night of Sports .

Multiple winners

In the Sportsman of the Year category , professional golf player Bernd Wiesberger has received the award eight times. The sailor Andreas Geritzer won the trophy four times, the ex-professional cyclist René Haselbacher and soccer player Andreas Ivanschitz won the trophy twice.

In the Sportswoman of the Year category , snowboarder Julia Dujmovits took home six trophies. Kickboxer Nicole Trimmel won four times and Eva Friesenhahn won twice. Paul Gludovatz was chosen four times as the winner of the coaching selection and is therefore the only multiple winner in this category.

SV Mattersburg won the Team of the Year seven times. The Oberwart Gunners won four times.
