The Wildes Moor landscape protection area near Rendsburg is a 2.08 square kilometer landscape protection area in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of Schleswig-Holstein, northwest of Kiel . The area is located in parts of the communities Osterrönfeld , Westerrönfeld , Schülp bei Rendsburg , Emkendorf and Jevenstedt . The Wilde Moor was designated as a landscape protection area on February 11, 1953.

The moor was created as a result of the post-glacial sea level rise in the North Sea on soft ice-age sand areas on the edge of the young moraine to the Geest. There, 5700 years ago, during the Atlantic , a post-glacial warm period, the peatland began to grow on a water-impermeable layer of sand between Jevenau and Wehrau . Until the 19th century it spread over an area of around 900 hectares. Then the cultivation of the moor began, of which around 1970 about 300 hectares remained, which were hollowed out by peat cutting. These were broken up into over 700 plots.

From 1978 onwards, the Association of the Independent Kuratorium Landschaft Schleswig-Holstein implemented step -by- step measures to rewet and renaturate the wild moor. The area is accessed by a circular route.

In areas that have not been renatured, mainly birch , pipe grass and bracken grow . Especially the birch trees have a large share in the summer fall in water levels through evaporation, which is why their population was regulated. The renaturation area of the Wild Moor today covers around 175 hectares. Since 1978 cotton-grass-peat moss communities have spread over large areas there as a result of the waterlogging.

To animal inhabitants include the insects 26 dragonfly species, 11 locusts species and 16 butterfly species. The amphibians are pond newt , common toad , moor , grass and water frog . Of the reptiles , the forest lizard , slow worm , smooth snake , grass snake and adder are present as reptiles in large numbers. 169 species of birds have also been spotted in the area. Among the 54 breeding birds there are numerous species typical of bog, such as gray goose , teal , crane , water rail , snipe , redshank , brown , black throat and bluethroat . During the migration period, whooper and dwarf swan , bean goose , white- fronted goose and barnacle goose as well as cranes and numerous limikoles also appear.
