Las Piedras is a town in the Pando department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Las Piedras is the most populous place in the canton of Agua Dulce in the district ( Bolivian: Municipio ) Puerto Gonzales Moreno in the province of Madre de Dios . The village is located at an altitude of 139  m on the left bank of the Río Beni , fourteen kilometers before the confluence of the Río Madre de Dios .

Las Piedras is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin on one of the tributaries of the Rio Madeira .

The mean average temperature of the region is 26 ° C (see climate diagram Riberalta) and fluctuates only insignificantly between around 25 ° C from April to August and just under 28 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is about 1,300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from June to August with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to January with over 200 mm monthly precipitation.

Las Piedras is 300 kilometers as the crow flies and 448 kilometers by road east of Cobija , the capital of the department.

From Cobija the 370 km long highway Ruta 13 leads east to El Choro , from there the Ruta 8 over 69 kilometers north to the city of Riberalta on the right bank of the Río Beni opposite the mouth of the Río Madre de Dios. From Riberalta, two short unpaved roads and a crossing of the Río Beni lead in a westerly direction via Las Piedras to Puerto Gonzalo Moreno .
