biography

Paulsen gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships in 1993 , but only achieved results in the lower midfield. After several victories in FIS races , the Norwegian started in the Ski World Cup in the 1996/97 season . In his first race, the descent from Bormio on December 29, 1996, he finished 20th and immediately scored World Cup points. At the end of February 1997 he came in 18th in the downhill from Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He achieved similar results next winter , the best result of the season was 20th place in the downhill from Kvitfjell .

The 1998/99 season was his most successful. In mid-December, Paulsen came in 13th in the Super-G of Val-d'Isère and in the Downhill from Val Gardena . The Norwegian achieved the best World Cup result of his career on December 21, 1998 in the Super-G at Patscherkofel near Innsbruck . In the legendary nine-time victory of the Austrian team, he was the best non-Austrian and finished 10th. In the Super-Gs in Schladming and Kvitfjell , he was also among the fastest 15, at the 1999 World Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek he was 27th in the Super- G.

In the 1999/2000 season Paulsen was unable to repeat these results, only in the giant slalom in Hinterstoder he was among the top 20. The 2000/01 season was slightly better , in which he reached the top 20 four times. The best result was 15th place in the giant slalom in Adelboden . At the 2001 World Championships in St. Anton , he finished 16th in the giant slalom at the same time as Didier Cuche . During the 2001/02 season Paulsen had to cope with many failures and could not finish any of his six giant slaloms at the finish. Towards the end of the season he achieved his best result of the season in the Super-G of Kvitfjell with 14th place.

At the beginning of the 2002/03 season , the Norwegian reached the points only once and on December 20, 2002, he contested his last World Cup race. After the season Paulsen ended his sporting career.
