The Latrop is an 11 km long, southeastern and left tributary of the Lenne in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis, which runs entirely on Schmallenberg's urban area (districts Grafschaft , Schmallenberg and Fleckenberg ) .

The catchment area of Latrop is almost identical to the natural space Latropschlucht , of a sub-space of the natural red hair and the same is framed by the other three parts. It is also located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park and large parts of the Latrop Gorge are in the Schanze forest reserve nature reserve .

The source of the Latrop is located about 3 km west of the Albrechtsberg ( 771.2 m ) and 500 m northwest of the small Schmallenberg district of Schanze, which it does not flow  through, at an altitude of 695  m . The Grafschaft – Schanze ( Am Stünzel ) strait leads past a few meters to the northeast .

After a short initial run to the west-north-west, the Latrop flows to the south-west and from the southern passage of the height ( 693.8  m ) mostly and with the exception of a section in the Schmallenberg district of Latrop through the nature reserve Waldreservat Schanze or runs on its border. It flows through the Schmallenberg districts Störmecke and Latrop, where it turns west. There the Latrop is fed by a road bridge ( 431.8  m ) through the Schladebach (Grubensiepen) ; The valley path of the Rothaarsteig leads over the bridge . It then runs south of the summit named Schmallenberger Höhe ( 677.9  m ) and north of Großer ( 614.5  m ) and Kleiner Bamicke ( 661.3  m ), where the Bamicke (Kleine Bamicke) joins when coming from the south Schmallenberg hamlet Waidmannsruh (approx.  395  m ) past; the Wiesentrop settlement was located there in the Middle Ages . The Ettmecke flows in from the south directly below . From then on, the Latop flows to the northwest and takes the water from the Hermann-Kayser-Quelle near the stream from a trickle .
