The Laudot is a river in France that runs in the Occitania region . It rises in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park , in the municipality of Les Cammazes , generally drains in a north-westerly direction despite a few loops and flows into the Sor as a left tributary after around 23 kilometers in the municipality of Garrevaques . On its way, the Laudot touches the Tarn , Aude and Haute-Garonne departments .
Water supply to the Canal du Midi
In the course of the construction of the Canal du Midi by Vauban , several water supply canals were built that collect the water required for the canal operation from the mountain area of the Montagne Noire . One of these canals, the Rigole de la Montagne Noire , has been introduced into the source stream of the Laudot since a tunnel 122 meters long and three meters wide was built in 1688.
The Saint-Ferréol reservoir was also built in the 17th century to improve the storage of water for the respective needs.
At Les Thoumazes (municipality of Saint-Félix-Lauragais ) the Laudot crosses another water supply canal, the Rigole de la Plaine . There is a lock system here ( 43 ° 25 ′ 47 ″ N , 1 ° 57 ′ 18 ″ E ), with the help of which the water can be diverted as required and thus reaches the Canal de Midi at Naurouze .
