Laura Olivia Spengel

Laura Olivia Spengel (born July 18, 1989 in Berlin ) is a Polish mezzo-soprano and former model . She has lived in Vienna since 2004 .

Laura Olivia Spengel is the daughter of the Polish soprano Grazyna Wojtanowska and the Polish soccer player Leszek Spengel . She grew up in Berlin, where she sang in the Berlin Children's Choir. At the age of 14 she moved to Vienna with her mother. From 2008 to 2011 she worked as an international catwalk and photo model.

Spengel studied musicology at the University of Vienna and singing at the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna with Gabriele Sima , and was also tutored by Barbara Frittoli and her mother. In addition, she took part in master classes with Thomas Hampson , Juan Diego Flórez , Marjana Lipovšek , Sona Ghazarian and Brigitte Fassbaender .

During her studies, Spengel appeared in the Akzent Theater as Hansel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel , as Sister Clara in Francis Poulenc's Conversations of the Carmelites, as well as at opera and song recitals at home and abroad. She had engagements at the Heidelberger Frühling , the Brucknerfest and the Daegu International Opera Festival in Korea . In 2015 she took part in the ORF Songbook project , worked with Michael Haneke on a video clip and received a scholarship from the Bayreuth Festival . She has also performed at Christmas concerts and at the New Year's Eve and New Year's concert of the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra and with the Festival Sinfonietta Linz Orchestra under Lui Chan. With the Sinfonietta Linz she completed a tour through Austria.

As part of a scholarship funding program, Spengel sang a concert at the Vienna State Opera and a gala concert in Seoul with the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra Korea in 2016 . In June 2018 she made her debut at the Wiener Musikverein alongside Juan Diego Flórez in the role of Maddalena in Gioachino Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims . Then she sang in Sofia at a concert of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Emil Tabakov in the 8th Symphony of Gustav Mahler .

Spengel completed her first solo aria evening in the great hall of the Brucknerhaus in November 2018 . In 2019 she sang the Rückert-Lieder in Poland at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music under the direction of Jurek Dybał and performed at the opening of the Rosenhügel studios in Vienna.

Spengel is a member of the Live Music Now association founded by Yehudi Menuhin , with which she takes part in benefit concerts and is involved in social projects.
