Laura Unuk (born November 9, 1999 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian chess player .

She plays club chess in Slovenia for ŠK Komenda , in Croatia for ŠK Draga from Rijeka , in Germany for the chess department of TuRa Harksheide , in Austria for SK Baden , with which she won the Austrian women's league in 2020 , and in Turkey for the Team of the Boğaziçi Üniversitesi from Istanbul .

She won Slovenian junior championships for women in 2009 (U10), 2011 (U12), 2012 (U20) and 2013 (U14). In August 2013 she won the Slovenian women's individual championship in Ljubljana ahead of Ksenija Novak. For winning the U16 World Cup for Women in 2014 in Durban , she received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). In September 2017 Unuk won the youth world championship in the U18 female age group in Montevideo .

At the 2013 U16 Olympics in Chongqing , she played on the third board, and in 2014 in Győr on the second board. She took part in the U18 European Championships for women in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Slovenia won the title with her in Iași in 2014 , receiving an individual gold medal for her result of 6 points from 7 games on the first board.

At the 2013 European Team Championship in Warsaw , she played on the fourth board of the Slovenian women's national team, two years later in Reykjavík and 2017 in Limenas Chersonisou on the top board. At the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromsø she had a positive result on the fourth board of the Slovenian women's selection with 7.5 points from 10 games, at the women's competition of the Chess Olympiad 2016 in Baku she achieved 7 points from 10 games on the Slovenian top board. At the 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi , Unuk appeared again on the first board of the Slovenian women's selection.

Since March 2019 Unuk has been holding the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM), she received the necessary standards at the European Women's Championships in 2017 in Riga and 2018 in Vysoké Tatry (both with overachievement) and in 2017 for winning the U18 Women's World Youth Championship in Montevideo .
