description

In 1272 a church in Farnroda was first mentioned in a document. Today's towerless, medieval hall church was rebuilt in 1667. The nave was partially renewed, a wooden barrel vault and two-storey galleries were built. The remains of the old church cemetery with the free-standing bell tower border the church today . It is a former medieval defense tower . A pouring stone was found inside, which indicates a former sacred use. After the Reformation it was converted into a bell tower.

The church furnishings include the carved altarpiece from 1504 in the east, the features of which refer to the Saalfeld school . The shrine shows a crescent Madonna , flanked on the right by Laurentius and Martin and on the left by Johannes and Thomas , in the side wings on the right Katharina and Bonifatius , on the left Cyriacus and Margareta . On the outside of the wings there are paintings about the Annunciation and the Nativity. A second, smaller retable from the 15th century stands on the south wall. In the shrine there is a Pietà , in the left wing Anna herself is depicted, in the right one James the Elder . Saints Erasmus and Christophorus are painted on the outside of the wings .

A wooden pulpit stands in the east above the altar. The organ in the organ prospectus from the 18th century has 18 stops , divided into 2 manuals and pedal . It was built in 1824 by Christian Adolf Hoßfeld and restored by Orgelbau Waltershausen in 1992 .
