The Lauter is a 19.4 km long, right and western tributary of the Baunach in the Haßberge in Lower and Upper Franconia ( Bavaria ).

The upper course of the Lauter is created between Köslau and Pettstadt near the state road 2281 in Köslauerer Grund . Initially it flows to Kirchlauter , where the actual Lauter spring is located near a kindergarten.

The Lauter flows further in a south-easterly direction through Weikartslauter , Kottendorf , Lußberg , Rudendorf , Leppelsdorf , Deusdorf and Lauter . Then it changes its direction of flow to the northeast and flows through Appendorf and Godeldorf .

At the southern border of the old town of Baunach , the Lauter flows into the Baunach from the right .
