The Lavarella Hut ( Ladin Üćia Lavarella , Italian Rifugio Lavarella , all names also appear with the alternative spelling Lavarela ) is a refuge in the Fanes group in the Dolomites .
Location and surroundings
The Lavarella Hut is located at an altitude of 2042 m on the Fanes plateau in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park . It is located in the municipality of Enneberg in South Tyrol , Italy .
Together with the neighboring Fanes Hut , the Lavarella Hut serves as a central base for hikes in the mountains surrounding the plateau. The peaks that can be reached from here include the Neuner , Zehner , Heiligkreuzkofel , Col Bechei , Piz Cunturines and the hut that gave its name, the Piz Lavarela . The communities Abtei and Wengen to the west of the Gadertal can be reached via several routes . Towards the northeast, at the Pederü refuge, you reach the Rautal, which leads in a north-westerly direction to St. Vigil .
history
Before the First World War, there was an alpine hut owned by the Frenner family on the site of today's refuge. In 1919, it was expanded into accommodation for mountaineers and hikers with materials taken from war buildings. After further expansion, it burned down in 1939. During the Second World War , the people of Frenn built a new hut, which was modernized in 1997.
Right next to the Lavarella Hut , the Picia Capela de Fanes , dedicated to Saint Joseph Freinademetz , was completed in 2003 .
In 2013 the hut was renovated before the junior hut owner opened his own microbrewery in 2019 , which is the highest brewery in Europe. His beer, brewed from mountain water, is called Ga.Beer .
