Lavenay is a commune Déléguée in the French community Loir en Vallée with 344 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Lavenaysia .

On January 1, 2017, Lavenay was merged with the municipalities of Ruillé-sur-Loir , La Chapelle-Gaugain and Poncé-sur-le-Loir to form the new municipality ( Commune nouvelle ) Loir en Vallée. The municipality belonged to the arrondissement of La Flèche and the canton of Château-du-Loir (until 2015: canton of La Chartre-sur-le-Loir ).

Lavenay is located about 44 kilometers south-east of Le Mans on the Loir and is part of the Coteaux du Loir wine-growing region .
