Saint-Jacques church and Canal des Ardennes

Le Chesne is a village and a former French commune with 897 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Vouziers and the canton of the same name .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Le Chesne , Louvergny and Les Alleux were merged to form a Commune nouvelle called Bairon et ses environs and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality .

geography

The place is on the apex of the Canal des Ardennes . The Lac de Bairon reservoir is partly responsible for the water supply of the canal. To the west, a staircase of locks leads down into the valley of the Aisne , to the east the canal first runs through the tunnel of Saint-Aignan and then down into the valley of the Meuse .
