Leo Baudiß , also Leo Baudiss , (born November 21, 1861 in Prague , † September 13, 1914 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mechanical engineer and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

Life

Leo Baudiß studied mechanical engineering at the German Technical University in Prague from 1883 to 1890 . He then worked as an engineer at Ruston & Co. in Prague-Lieben, where he was involved in the planning of industrial plants, electricity and water works and invented a steering control for steam engines named after him .

In 1900 he was appointed full professor of mechanical engineering at the German Technical University in Prague. In 1904 he moved to the newly created chair for the construction of thermal engines at the Vienna University of Technology. In the academic years 1906/1907 to 1908/1909 he was dean of the mechanical engineering department. In the academic year 1909/1910 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . During his term of office, he introduced his own degree in electrical engineering . He also initiated the establishment of a mechanical engineering laboratory at the Vienna University of Technology.

In 1913 he was appointed councilor . He died in 1914 at the age of 52 and was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .

In 1974 the Baudißgasse in Vienna's 11th district Simmering was named after him.
